Ok, we admit February can be a bit cold and wet in Dublin (as it can be in most of Europe if we’re honest) but that doesn’t mean there aren’t lots of things to see and do in our wonderful city.
Here are our recommendations:
1. Rugby
Every February the world’s biggest and best rugby championship starts: the Six Nations.
From the first weekend in February until St Patrick’s Day, Ireland, England, France, Wales, Scotland and Italy will battle it out for the title of Six Nations Champions. We start in Paris and our first home match will be against Italy on February 10th. It’s going to be epic this year. Here’s the 6 Nations match schedule.
2. Little Museum Of Dublin
We can’t get enough of this place. The Little Museum Of Dublin is a brilliant way to spend half an hour – and it’s practically next door to us. Through February and March they have a special exhibition of Ireland’s Fashion Radicals – a celebration of 1950s & 60s Dublin fashion. Get tickets.
3. St. Valentine’s Day
Always a big deal in Dublin. If you’re stuck for ideas, have a word with one of our concierges who will recommend romantic restaurants and things to do. Of course, the Fitzwilliam Hotel has some fantastic offers on accommodation, dining and afternoon tea.
4. Paul Weller
Paul Weller is huge in Ireland and his concerts are always fantastic here. This tour is to promote his 13th solo studio album – the man is unstoppable. Tickets are here.
5. Bolshoi Ballet
The Lighthouse Cinema is showing a night of Bolshoi Ballet perfection on the 12th with The Lady of the Camellias. This is one of Alexandre Dumas, fils’ finest works and it tells the story of a naive new arrival to Paris, Armand, who falls in love with a courtesan, Marguerite. For tickets for this big screen, big sound production, go here.
6. Macbeth
Always one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, this is a modern and lively retelling of the tale. There will be eight performances at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre and you can get your tickets here.
7. Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown
Leopardstown Racecourse is one of the world’s top horse racing venues and this is an incredible two days of the finest jump racing in which to immerse yourself. Only 15 minutes from the hotel door by tram, get your tickets here.
8. Sergeant Peppers
The Beatles’ iconic Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is 50 years old this year. As a part of a string of worldwide celebrations, the amazing Bootleg Beatles and the UCD Symphony Orchestra will perform the album in its entirety at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on February 25th. Tickets are here.
