Dublin Transport

Dublin is a vibrant and easily accessible city, offering a range of public and private transport options to help you explore with ease. While there’s no underground metro (yet!), you’ll find a well-connected network of trams, buses, trains, taxis, and even bike-sharing services to get you where you need to go.

Luas – Dublin’s Tram System

The Luas (meaning “speed” in Irish) is Dublin’s modern and efficient tram service, with two main lines:

  • The Green Line runs right past The Fitzwilliam Hotel, stopping at St. Stephen’s Green. It connects key areas including Trinity College, O’Connell Street, Dundrum Town Centre, and Sandyford.
  • The Red Line links Dublin’s Docklands (near 3Arena) to the western suburbs and connects with the Green Line at Marlborough Street.

The Luas is a convenient and scenic way to travel across the city, with frequent services throughout the day.

DART & Rail – Explore Beyond the City

For coastal adventures, hop on the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART), which runs along Dublin Bay from Greystones (South Dublin) to Howth and Malahide (North Dublin). This is a fantastic way to visit seaside towns, beaches, and scenic coastal walks.

For nationwide travel:

  • Connolly Station (accessible via the Green Line Luas) connects to Belfast, Sligo, and Rosslare.
  • Heuston Station serves destinations like Cork, Limerick, Galway, and Killarney.

Dublin Bus – Extensive & Affordable

Dublin’s bus network is extensive, covering every corner of the city. The most cost-effective way to use the service is with a Leap Card, available at nearby newsagents (there’s one right outside the hotel). This smart card also works on Luas, DART, and Irish Rail.

For real-time schedules and route planning, download the TFI Journey Planner or the Dublin Bus app.

Taxis – Quick & Convenient

Dublin taxis are plentiful and can use bus lanes, making them a quicker option during peak hours. You’ll find a large taxi rank right outside The Fitzwilliam Hotel, ensuring easy access to transport whenever you need it. Plus, Dublin taxi drivers are known for their friendly chats and local stories—a true Irish experience!

Getting to and from Dublin Airport

Although Dublin Airport doesn’t yet have a direct rail link, there are several options for seamless transfers:

  • Aircoach: A direct service to the city, with stops including St. Stephen’s Green, just minutes from our hotel.
  • Dublin Express & Other Private Coaches: Frequent services connecting the airport to key city locations.
  • Taxis: Available 24/7, with a well-managed rank at the airport for a hassle-free journey.

Wherever you’re headed, The Fitzwilliam Hotel’s prime location at St. Stephen’s Green makes getting around Dublin effortless. Our team is happy to assist with directions, transport passes, or taxi bookings—just ask!
