From the unique and important to the strange and very unusual, here are 11 things you can do in Dublin in October including some showstoppers you won’t want to miss:

1. Dublin Festival of History

The third annual Dublin Festival of History will take place from September 25th to October 10th and is organised by Dublin City Public Libraries. Join historians and writers for lectures, debate and, this year, a new Children’s and Family Programme.

2. A View from the Bridge

OK this is not so unusual but Arthur Miller’s work is not often staged in Dublin. This production is at the famous Gate Theatre running all month as part of Dublin Theatre Festival.

4. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

From October 6th to the 10th at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre – based on the bestselling award-winning novel by Mark Haddon – this is a thrilling new stage play and the headline show for the Dublin Theatre Festival 2015.

5. Dancing at Lughnasa

One of the great plays by one of the world’s greatest playwrights, Brian Friel. Go see his Olivier and Tony Award-winning masterpiece, Dancing at Lughnasa, performed at this year’s Dublin Theatre Festival from October 6th to the 11th.

6. Dublin Animation Film Festival

The only festival in Ireland completely dedicated to animated film will take place on October 16th and 17th in Dún Laoghaire. The naturally named Dublin Animation Film Festival features long and short animated movies from both here and around the world.

7. Taste City Fusion

You know how we like great food at the Fitzwilliam. If you’re like us, then get yourself along to the wonderful Taste City Fusion festival of good food at the city’s iconic Christ Church Cathedral from the 22nd to the 25th of October.

8. Bram Stoker Festival

Dublin native Bram Stoker will be celebrated with a four-day festival in the week before Halloween. An annual event, the Bram Stoker Festival includes readings from his notorious novel Dracula, exhibitions and tours all over the city from October 23rd to the 26th. On the 25th, there will be a gothic pop-up theme park in the city centre Wolfe Tone Square.

9. Mind Body Spirit & Yoga Dublin Festival

Over three days from October 24th to 26th you can explore a wealth of information, advice, lectures, demonstrations and taster sessions on all aspects of well-being at this fantastic festival in the RDS.

10. SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon

This is the 36th year of the Dublin Marathon and it takes place on October 26th. Even if you’re not running, there are lots of events planned around the race.

11. The Easter Rising: Understanding 1916

This exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland will give you an insight into what happened on our city’s streets and inside the hearts and minds of our people when Ireland took its first real steps to becoming a republic.
